Lagos - Lagos - A 44-year-old driver, Opeyemi Oyedokun, who allegedly stole N220 000 from his employer’s car and captured by CCTV has appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ignatus Okeke, said the accused committed the offence on February 26 at 9.15 a.m. at AP car park on No. 21/22, Marina St., Lagos Island.
Okeke alleged that Oyedokun was instructed to wash the cars of his employer and that of the complainant, Emmanuel Osalusi, with the keys handed over to him.
According to him, after the accused had finished washing the cars he saw a small bag in the car.
"Curiously, he opened the car, removed the bag and put it in his employer’s car.
"He removed the money from the bag and later returned it without knowing that a CCTV camera had captured him," Okeke said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Yetunde Pinheiro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to March 24 for hearing.
