The Northern Nigeria Youth
Council (NNYC) has thrown its weight behind Gen. Kenneth Minimah who was last
week appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as Chief of Army Staff.
In a statement issued in
Lagos and signed by its National Chairman, Ahmad Muttaqa and National Secretary,
Sani Ahmed, the group said the general is a brilliant scholar with enviable
records in the military and called on the lawmakers to rise above board to
clear him so that he can settle down to tackle security challenges confronting
the nation.
The youth explained that they
have no doubt that General Minimah has garnered enough skills and experience to
tackle the multifaceted security problem confronting our the country.
“We therefore deem it fit and thought it wise to draw
the attention of well meaning Nigerians most especially the unprejudiced
lawmakers that cut across different religious and ethnic background.
“Sequel to the past antecedent of General K.T Minimah
who join the Nigeria Defence Academy's 25th regular
course, a refined and dogged infantry officer who rose through the ranks to
become the head of Lagos command, whose excellent performance earned him his
immediate past appointment, commander of the Nigerian Army infantry corps Jaji.
This availed him added opportunities to meeting sound minded Nigerians
including the highest ranking officers of the Nigerian Army”,
the statement said. See below for full text of the statement.
